Our Story
We first heard about Kangen water at the 2010 Azalea Trail Run. We saw a demonstration about the water and thought the benefits sounded too good to be true. How could water be an antioxidant? We had never heard of pH being important in what we drink either. However, we had always been interested in clean water and chose purified/filtered water over tap water. Thus, it was somewhat discerning when he took our bottled water from our hands and showed us that it was acidic. It wasn't as bad as soda or Gatorade, but it was not as pure as we had thought. We then filled our bottles back up with the Kangen water. While it did not taste much different, it seemed somewhat lighter and smoother. We were intrigued and interested in finding out more about it. We were given several jugs to take home with us, and we quickly began researching alkaline water and other related concepts. The literature made sense, and we decided to try the water for several weeks to see how it went. We were given it for free, so what did we have to lose?
We were surprised to find decades of research on the benefits of drinking alkaline water, findings that many diseases have been linked to acidosis, and studies suggesting that an alkaline diet led to improved health and weight loss. We also found animal studies that showed reproductive benefits for their young, as the mothers drinking alkaline water produced healthier babies. Researchers noted the animals showed a strong preference for the alkaline water, and their fur and skin seemed to benefit from drinking it. We also found positive research on the strong acid water (pH of 2.5), such as the ability to sanitize/disinfect and kill bacteria. One study found that wounds treated with this water healed much faster than those treated with other treatments. Animal studies using lesions showed similar results. While we haven't yet located any articles on the effects of strong alkaline water (pH 11.5), we saw with our own eyes that it could break down oil (but oil put in tap water completely separated). Likewise, the strong alkaline water used to rinse off vegetables became dirty (because it came off into the water), but the tap water rinsed off clean (meaning all that residue was still on the vegetables). In addition, vegetables rinsed in tap water soaked up all the chlorine from the water (as evidenced by coloration from the chlorine drops disappearing after vegetables were soaked in the water).
We started drinking the alkaline water (pH of 9.5) to test it out for ourselves. Right away we noticed digestive benefits (such as increased regularity). We realized that we just felt better and slept better. After several weeks, we noticed that we had more energy and no longer drank our coffee everyday. We started to mix it with decaf, and now we no longer even bring it with us to work! The kids seemed to sleep better and be in a better mood. They also drank the water everyday, whereas before they never drank our filtered or bottled water regularly. The animals also appeared to drink more water when we filled their bowls with the alkaline water. It feels good to rinse our fruits and vegetables in the strong alkaline water (pH of 11.5) and know that there are no pesticides or other chemicals on our food. In fact, the more we researched this topic, the more health conscience we became. Starting to drink this water has triggered other healthy decisions (such as no longer drinking sodas and striving to eat more alkaline foods/vegetables).
After six weeks of filling up jugs of this water, we finally made the decision to purchase a machine for our home. We realized that we simply could not go back to drinking our purified (yet acidic) bottled water, and discovering that we could write off the total amount of the machine on our taxes made the decision even easier. This not only saved us the hassle of filling up jugs, but we knew we would be getting more benefits by drinking it fresh from the machine. Due to the ionization process, the water is electrically restructured and therefore starts to lose its "charge" the longer it sits. We were recommended to drink our jugs within one to two days after filling them up, and we found out that it was best to drink it within twenty minutes of making it.
